Seek the City: June 18-23, 2017

Seek the City is the ‘stay-at-home’ summer mission trip for Christ Covenant Church. Middle school and high school youth set aside a week in the summer to serve the communities of Charlotte and Matthews. We call it a ‘stay-at-home’ mission because the students and their leaders live on our campus in Matthews, NC for the entire week. The Covenant Day high school gym becomes home base, with hundreds of volunteers sleeping on air mattresses and living out of suitcases. Dinners (donated and served by members of Christ Covenant Church) happen in the middle school gym and every night all of the participants meet on campus for worship, teaching, and team meetings.

During the day, 5-8 teams of students and leaders leave to serve all over the city: running sports camps, leading vacation Bible school, partnering with programs in the local schools for at-risk students, serving nursing homes, and completing work projects for senior citizens in our church, to name just a few opportunities.

Seek the City is based on Jeremiah 29:7, where God calls the exiles to “seek the welfare of the city where I have called you.” Students spend each day serving different organizations and ministries in the surrounding area and worship together each evening in a camp-style meeting.

God has shaped this annual outreach to our community as a unique way for the whole church family to work together. It’s a complex undertaking that works because so many get involved, doing what they can to support a ministry that brings God’s love to many in need. Thank you to the hundreds of people who have faithfully served, prayed, brought food, helped at worksites and done so much more during this Seek the City week. We thank God for working among us and through us to share the good news of Christ as we establish relationships and provide hands-on assistance with more than 350 children/teens through STC projects like VBS, sports camps, and camps at Crestdale Middle and Matthews Elementary Schools. For our 2016 Seek the City, we had 915 slots that were filled by all generations in our congregation. Here’s how that breaks down: 129 students | 25 leaders | 137 prayer partners | 142 site helpers | 482 food/servers

We are looking forward to having you work with us again for Seek the City 2017!
